This is the main building of geodetic origin which is located in Shijisi Village Yongle Town Jingyang county Shanxi Province China (photo taken on July 8th). At the beginning of the foundation of China, the geodetic coordinate system with the Bolkov Conservatory of the former Soviet Union as the origin of the coordinate was adopted, which wasn’t in line with the construction and development of china. China began to conduct a field survey of topography, geology, gravity and the tectonic structure in Zhenzhou, Wuhan, Xian, and Lanzhou, etc. The geodetic origin of PRC was finally determined in Shijisi Village Yongle Town Jingyang county Shanxi Province, with the coordinate longitude of E 108°55’, latitude N 34°32’, which marked the initial point and benchmark of the independent geodetic point. It is the symbol of the independence of the Chinese survey and mapping, which plays its significant role in the economic development and the scientific research.
It is the mark of the geodetic center made of agate with a “cross” on top of the sphere. It is embedded at the center of the exposed part of the granite mark stone and will be kept permanently. The “cross” is the initial point of survey in the “1980 coordinate system”.
